Take the brakes off renewable energy

Renewable energy has been booming in Australia, with wind and solar now overtaking brown coal.

After a record three years of construction, industry research company, Macromonitor, found a record $9 billion of investment in renewables “...is currently the largest contributor to overall growth in construction in Australia.”

Investment in renewable energy has been driving our economy.

But with the Renewable Energy Target ending in 2020, a government policy void is threatening to bring this boom to a screeching halt, taking thousands of jobs and a host of regional benefits with it.

At a time when we desperately need to be decarbonising our energy system to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, renewable energy investment has plummeted to 2016 levels.

Our Energy Minister, Angus Taylor (who is a former anti-wind energy campaigner), is stuck on coal and claims there is too much renewable energy in the grid.

This flies in the face of advice from the government’s most senior advisor in energy
- not to mention AEMO, CSIRO, ARENA and Australia’s Chief Scientist, Alan Finkel.

We need to send a strong message to Angus Taylor, and all politicians: we want the clean energy infrastructure of today and the renewable energy careers of now.

Will you add your voice to the call for more wind, solar and storage and tell Angus Taylor to stop putting the brakes on renewables?
