RE-Alliance has welcomed the launch of the Developer Rating Scheme’s public register, saying greater transparency about renewable energy companies is a positive step, with the scheme’s success ultimately measured by better experiences for regional communities.
RE-Alliance National Director Andrew Bray said:
“Regional communities deserve clear information about the companies proposing renewable energy projects in their area. We encourage developers to participate so it becomes more useful to landholders and communities across Australia.
“While the register gives communities another tool to ask informed questions, the real test is whether the scheme leads to better engagement on the ground and developers delivering on their promises to communities.
“RE-Alliance helped shape the scheme’s methodology, advocating for meaningful community engagement and lasting local benefits. As the scheme continues to evolve, we want to see greater transparency, stronger assessment of decommissioning and accountability for long-term promises to communities.”
Susan Findlay-Tickner, a farmer near Horsham in Victoria, Murra Warra Wind Farm landholder and RE-Alliance board member, said the scheme would help landholders and communities ask better questions earlier.
“When we were first approached by the developer, we did a lot of our own work to satisfy ourselves that the company was reputable and had a strong track record. Having a tool like this would have made that process much easier.
“Farmers and regional communities should be able to know who they’re dealing with before they are deep into a conversation with a developer. I’d encourage landholders and community groups to use the register, ask questions, and expect companies to be transparent about their track record.”
