Submission regarding rule change request by Energy Consumers Australia

Holistic planning for our grid as we switch to renewable energy is crucial. We support a recent rule change request by Energy Consumers Australia for a new Integrated Distribution System Planning process. The request proposes changes to the distribution planning process to make it better informed, more comprehensive and more proactive. Australia has a well developed plan for large-scale transmission, with the Australian Energy Market Operator’s Integrated System Plan (ISP) – but there is a gap in planning at the distribution level and no integration between the ISP and distribution. We see the rule change request as an important step towards addressing these related issues.
