In our work with renewable energy regions, concerns about the potential environmental impacts of renewable energy projects are often raised by community members.
We welcome the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)’s work to ensure better consideration and management of these impacts, and the opportunity to comment on the draft guidance and advisory notes developed to support their Handbook for the development of renewable energy in Victoria (Handbook).
We provided comments on each of the following draft Advisory Notes:
- Unmapped Brolga flocking areas
- Unknown Bent-wing Bat roosting sites
- Demonstrating the application of a risk-based approach for onshore renewable energy
- Monitoring, reporting and adaptive management
- Developing compensatory measures
- Community engagement and biodiversity values.
